At this level, earners focus on building upon foundational skills established at A1:

  • Speaking: They engage in basic conversations about family, hobbies, and daily routines, express preferences, give simple instructions, and narrate personal experiences using basic vocabulary.
  • Reading: They understand simple texts, short stories, and factual information on familiar subjects, infer meaning from context, and identify specific details like names, numbers, and dates.
  • Writing: They produce short texts such as emails, postcards, or notes with basic sentence structures, organize ideas logically, and incorporate simple details.
  • Grammar and Vocabulary: They master essential grammar structures (e.g., Past
    Simple, Future with ‘going to’) and expand vocabulary on topics such as professions, travel, and leisure activities.
  • Culture and Communication: They gain cultural awareness through the exploration of customs, traditions, and everyday practices. They develop skills in polite language use and adapt communication styles in various contexts.

  • Speaking: Participate in conversations on familiar topics, express opinions and provide simple explanations for views. Describe experiences, events, dreams, hopes, and
    ambitions, and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
  • Reading: Understand texts that consist mainly of high-frequency everyday or job-related language. Understand the description of events, feelings, and wishes in personal letters.
  • Writing: Write simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest. Write personal letters describing experiences and impressions.
  • Grammar and Vocabulary: Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g., very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
  • Culture and Communication: Develop cultural awareness by exploring customs, traditions, and everyday practices in English-speaking countries. Engage in simple social interactions, understand polite language conventions, and adapt communication style according to different contexts.
